Home of Heroes: A Sanctuary for Retired Working Dogs
Home of Heroes is the world’s first sanctuary dedicated to providing retired working dogs, especially demining K9 veterans, with the dignity, care, and love they deserve after a life of courageous service.
Founded in 2017 by Yulia Khouri and inspired by the heroic journey of a demining dog named Muriel, Home of Heroes rescues, rehabilitates, and rehomes dogs who once served on the frontlines of landmine detection and unexploded ordnance (UXO) clearance. These brave souls have saved countless human and animal lives, and now it’s our turn to serve them.

Retired Working Heroes
Dogs at Home of Heroes are not just simple dogs – they are retired working heroes who have served on the frontlines of demining operations, risked their lives to protect communities, and played a vital role in making the world safer for generations to come. Behind every pointy nose at Home of Heroes is a story of courage, loyalty, and sacrifice.
Every Dog Has a Story
Each of our dogs has a unique personality and background. Some are seasoned veterans who’ve cleared hundreds of landmines and unexploded ordnance (UXO). Others are dogs who didn’t pass final field training but still deserve a life of love and care.
Whether brave and bold or gentle and goofy, they all have one thing in common:
They served manity. And now, they deserve the best we can give.
Every photo, every paw print, and every name on this page represents a hero. Maybe the one who once saved your family.
