Home of Heroes: A Sanctuary for Retired Working Dogs
Eddie was born in Cambodia in April 2018, part of a promising new generation of Mine Detection Dogs trained by Norwegian People’s Aid (NPA). From a young age, he entered basic training at the NPA Training Center in Siem Reap, where he began his journey learning how to detect explosives hidden beneath the soil of former war zones.
Although Eddie was never formally deployed into active duty, his training still played an important role in shaping the future of the program. Dogs like Eddie contribute to vital early-stage testing, helping trainers refine their detection protocols and improve success rates for the next generation of accredited mine detection dogs.
Eddie was donated before reaching official accreditation, and on May 23, 2019, he joined Home of Heroes as a young retiree. He was living in the centre till the moment he met his amazing and loving guardians, the Graves family, who are the veterans of war and who officially became his guardians in September 2024.
Warm-hearted, social, and curious, Eddie may not have cleared a single mine but he represents the many heroes who support the mission behind the scenes. In training or in action, every hero matters.
