Home of Heroes is the world’s first sanctuary dedicated to providing retired working dogs, especially demining K9 veterans, with the dignity, care, and love they deserve after a life of courageous service.
Founded in 2017 by Yulia Khouri and inspired by the heroic journey of a demining dog named Muriel, Home of Heroes rescues, rehabilitates, and rehomes dogs who once served on the frontlines of landmine detection and unexploded ordnance (UXO) clearance. These brave souls have saved countless human and animal lives, and now it’s our turn to serve them.

Guardian of Heroes is a foster-based program for specially selected individuals and families who are willing to open their hearts and homes to one of our retired K9 heroes.
Our goal is threefold:
1. To place retired demining dogs in safe, loving homes, where they can enjoy life as a part of a family after years of service.
2. To provide lifelong medical and wellness support, including monthly checkups by the Animal Mama Hospital team, free of charge for the rest of the dog’s life.
3. To ensure every K9 veteran is protected, never neglected, never euthanized due to age, illness, or cost, and never at risk of falling into abuse or the dog meat trade.

How can I adopt a retired demining dog?
To adopt, browse our available dogs, fill out the adoption form, and schedule a visit. Our team will guide you through the process to ensure the dog is a good fit for your home.
Can I sponsor a dog without adopting?
Yes! Sponsorship allows you to support a retired dog with monthly or one-time donations that go directly to food, medical care, and shelter
What happens if I can no longer care for my adopted dog?
If circumstances change, you can return the dog to Home of Heroes. We ensure every retired dog remains safe and cared for, no matter what.
How do you ensure retired dogs are treated well in adoptive homes?
We maintain regular follow-ups and provide guidance to adopters, ensuring each retired dog continues to receive proper care and love.
