Home of Heroes: A Sanctuary for Retired Working Dogs

Kaste was born in 2006, in Bosnia and began her life of service under the Cambodia Mine Action Center (CMAC). One of the earliest demining dogs to work in Cambodia’s most heavily mined regions, Kaste gave nearly a decade of her life to protecting communities and clearing deadly terrain.
From January 21, 2007, to September 30, 2016, Kaste operated in the minefields of Battambang Province, focusing on high-risk areas in Samlout, Bavel, and Banan districts. These zones, scarred by decades of war, posed extreme danger to locals, and it was dogs like Kaste who made them safe again.

Kaste retired officially in 2017, and was welcomed into Home of Heroes where she lived out the final chapter of her life in peace, safety, and love.
On July 26, 2018, Kaste passed away.
She was one of the earliest heroes to join Home of Heroes, and one of the most powerful reminders of why Home of Heroes started. With her watchful eyes and strength, Kaste taught us the meaning of loyalty, service, and dignity. Her legacy is still with us even through all these years.
