Home of Heroes: A Sanctuary for Retired Working Dogs
Home of Heroes is the world’s first sanctuary dedicated to providing retired working dogs, especially demining K9 veterans, with the dignity, care, and love they deserve after a life of courageous service.
Founded in 2017 by Yulia Khouri and inspired by the heroic journey of a demining dog named Muriel, Home of Heroes rescues, rehabilitates, and rehomes dogs who once served on the frontlines of landmine detection and unexploded ordnance (UXO) clearance. These brave souls have saved countless human and animal lives, and now it’s our turn to serve them.

About Dog
Inna was born in 2007, in Bosnia and trained at the Global Training Centre (GTC). With her natural ability and focus, she became a trusted Mine Detection Dog working under Norwegian People’s Aid (NPA). Over her years of service, Inna served in two vital roles: first in the field, then in public education.
From June 2015 to June 2017, Inna worked in Ratanakiri Province, Cambodia, clearing some of the most dangerous areas contaminated with cluster munitions. During that time, she located 78 cluster munitions (CBU/BLU) and helped clear over 177,089 square meters of land.
After retiring from field clearance in June 2017, Inna joined the NPA Explosive Detection Dog Show in Siem Reap, where she served as a public ambassador: teaching visitors, students, and dignitaries about the crucial role of working dogs in humanitarian demining.
Inna officially joined Home of Heroes on June 20, 2018, where she spent her well-earned retirement in peace and dignity, under the loving care of Founder Yulia Khouri.
On January 5, 2022, Inna peacefully passed away at Home of Heroes.
Gentle, calm, and wise, Inna represented the very spirit of Home of Heroes. Her soft gaze and quiet strength touched all who met her. She gave everything in service and spent her final years surrounded by love, safety, and respect.
Though she may be gone, her legacy lives on in every life she helped protect, and in every step we take toward honoring dogs like her.
Forever remembered.
Forever a Hero.
