Home of Heroes: A Sanctuary for Retired Working Dogs
Home of Heroes is the world’s first sanctuary dedicated to providing retired working dogs, especially demining K9 veterans, with the dignity, care, and love they deserve after a life of courageous service.
Founded in 2017 by Yulia Khouri and inspired by the heroic journey of a demining dog named Muriel, Home of Heroes rescues, rehabilitates, and rehomes dogs who once served on the frontlines of landmine detection and unexploded ordnance (UXO) clearance. These brave souls have saved countless human and animal lives, and now it’s our turn to serve them.

About Dog
Gucci was a remarkable working dog and one of the most beloved heroines to ever walk the fields of Cambodia. Born in Bosnia on January 3, 2012, and trained at the Global Training Centre (GTC), she was later deployed to Cambodia under the banner of Norwegian People’s Aid (NPA).
Gucci began her operational service in 2015, and officially retired in 2020. During her working years, she served two roles:
During her career, Gucci discovered:
In March 2016, Gucci was also selected as a breeding dog, becoming the proud mother of five puppies: Axel, Atos, Ankor, Aimo, and Aron, known as the “A-Litter.” Her legacy continues not only through the lives she saved, but through her pups, trained to follow in her heroic pawsteps.
Gucci joined Home of Heroes in 2020, and later was moved to the house of our Founder, Yulia Khouri. After years of service, she finally experienced what every hero deserves: peace, rest, and family. Known for her calm wisdom, noble eyes, and gentle temperament, Gucci brought serenity to the Home of Heroes. She was deeply loved, admired, and respected, not just for what she did, but for who she was.
In 2025, Gucci passed away peacefully, surrounded by those who adored her. Though her body has left us, her spirit lives on in the heart of Home of Heroes. She was more than a working dog. She was a guardian, a mother, a teacher, and a symbol of why we exists.
Forever remembered. Forever honored.
Gucci, you will always be our hero. 🌈
