Home of Heroes: A Sanctuary for Retired Working Dogs
Emilie was born in 2018 in Cambodia, a daughter of distinguished working dogs from the Global Training Centre (GTC) bloodline. From her earliest days, Emilie showed promise in precision, focus, and alertness, the qualities vital to any detection dog.
She began her training with the Norwegian People’s Aid (NPA) at their Mine Action Center in Siem Reap. Although her operational journey was brief, she underwent Basic Mine Detection Dog (MDD) training between September 2018 and February 2019. While she was never deployed to active field duty, Emilie completed the training and became a symbol of preparedness and the power of every mission.
In May 2019, Emilie joined Home of Heroes, where she was welcomed with warmth and kindness. Donated before official accreditation, her journey didn’t end in the field but began anew in retirement, offering love, loyalty, and companionship to those around her.
Gentle and bright, Emilie reminds us that not every hero’s story is measured in land cleared or UXOs found. Some are written in the help for animals and spreading the awareness about the demining and service dogs in the world. With her quiet devotion, soft eyes, and the joy of simply being there, she is part of our family, part of our legacy.
