Home of Heroes: A Sanctuary for Retired Working Dogs
Home of Heroes is the world’s first sanctuary dedicated to providing retired working dogs, especially demining K9 veterans, with the dignity, care, and love they deserve after a life of courageous service.
Founded in 2017 by Yulia Khouri and inspired by the heroic journey of a demining dog named Muriel, Home of Heroes rescues, rehabilitates, and rehomes dogs who once served on the frontlines of landmine detection and unexploded ordnance (UXO) clearance. These brave souls have saved countless human and animal lives, and now it’s our turn to serve them.

About Dog
Jupiter was born in Cambodia in early 2019 and began her life under the terrifying condition: caught in the horrors of the dog meat trade. But she was rescued by Animal Mama Veterinary Hospital in May 2019, part of an urgent mission to save dogs from brutal trafficking routes.
Though she was still just a puppy, Jupiter showed a quick mind and eager heart. She went on to receive basic obedience training at the Animal Mama Dog Training Center in Siem Reap. While her journey did not lead to a working role in security or demining, her spirit was no less heroic.
She officially joined Home of Heroes in October 2019 and spent the following years living in peace and safety, never again fearing cages, markets, or the cruelty of humans. Jupiter passed away in 2025, surrounded by love and comfort.
Gentle, intelligent, and resilient, Jupiter reminds us that not all heroes wear vests or clear landmines. Some simply survive, heal, and inspire.
