Home of Heroes: A Sanctuary for Retired Working Dogs
Home of Heroes is the world’s first sanctuary dedicated to providing retired working dogs, especially demining K9 veterans, with the dignity, care, and love they deserve after a life of courageous service.
Founded in 2017 by Yulia Khouri and inspired by the heroic journey of a demining dog named Muriel, Home of Heroes rescues, rehabilitates, and rehomes dogs who once served on the frontlines of landmine detection and unexploded ordnance (UXO) clearance. These brave souls have saved countless human and animal lives, and now it’s our turn to serve them.

About Dog
Karuna was born in 2017, in Cambodia and began her journey as a Mine Detection Dog with the Cambodia Mine Action Center (CMAC). She started basic puppy training at CMAC’s facilities in Kampong Chhnang Province but her path took a different turn.
Parker was born in 2019, in South Africa, and later arrived in Cambodia where he began his training at the Dog Training Center of Animal Mama in Siem Reap. Energetic, bright, and full of potential, Parker was enrolled in the Basic Security and Tracking Dog program beginning on April 25, 2020.
Although he was never deployed for official field or security service, Parker completed his early training with enthusiasm and quickly captured the hearts of his caregivers. He was welcomed into Home of Heroes in 2020, where he has remained as a beloved companion and sanctuary resident.
Affectionate and playful, Parker loves human company, leisurely walks, and engaging his nose in all activities. While he didn’t become an operational working dog, he is a true representation of the joy, curiosity, and spirit we celebrate in every life at Home of Heroes.
Parker reminds us that not all heroes have medals, some simply make the world better with their presence.
